Punjab Governor Salman Taseer has urged the philanthropists to extend maximum financial support to charity hospitals in order to help them provide better medical facilities to the needy and poor patients.

Such institutions will serve as role models for giving medical facilities free or at subsidised rates, the governor said.

He expressed these views during a visit to The Kidney Centre Post-graduate Training Institute on Friday.

Chairperson, Friends of Kidney Centre, Maryana Karim and Members of the Board of Governors, medical professionals and senior doctors of Kidney Centre were also present on the occasion.

While appreciating the performance of The Kidney Centre, Taseer said that, although the present government was taking special steps for providing medical facilities to the poor people, efforts of the public sector and welfare institutions in providing better medical treatment to poor patients were praiseworthy. He said that kidney transplants were definitely costly. However, back in his province, the Punjab government was extending all possible medical facilities to the poor and deserving patients.
