| ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani on Friday accepted the resignation of Raza Rabbani as leader of the house in Senate and minister for inter-provincial coordination.
The former minister later met Gilani, who appreciated Rabbani’s contribution in the Senate and federal cabinet. |

| Safdar urges President to restore deposed judges |
| RAWALPINDI: Pakistan People’s Party senior leader Safdar Abbasi has said that the PPP workers would follow the vision and philosophy of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto in true letter and spirit.
Addressing Rawalpindi Bar here on Friday, Abbasi said the history of judiciary was replete with verdicts that turned out to be harmful for the people and democracy, however, the nation realised on March 9, 2007 that the judiciary could still deliver.
He said Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto did not acknowledge the PCO. Safdar Abbasi said the PPP workers support deposed Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry. He urged President Asif Ali Zardari to honour his commitments and restore all the deposed judges.
He said the restoration of judges would restore President’s credibility.
He said the use of force cannot suppress any mass movement and the government should address people’s concern. |

| Lawyers to intensify campaign: Kurd |
DERA ALLAH YAR: The lawyers challenging the government will step up their cross-country protest campaign despite beatings and arrests by the police, the President of Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) Ali Ahmed Kurd said on Friday.
"The way our lawyers were beaten up and arrested, we've decided that we need to intensify our struggle," Kurd told reporters here.
Black-suited lawyers and flag-waving opposition activists launched the long march protest in the cities of Karachi and Quetta on Thursday, despite a ban on rallies and the detention of hundreds of activists.
Baton-wielding police clashed with protesters in Karachi and arrested several of their leaders as they tried to stop a convoy of cars and buses leaving the city.

| Taseer’s son writes shocking memoirs about his father |
| ISLAMABAD: Aatish Taseer, the 29-year old son of Punjab Governor Salmaan Taseer, who is a journalist and lives in London, has written a book, a personal memoir, about his life story in which he has depicted his father in a manner that will shock and repel many of his Pakistani readers.
The book, titled “Stranger to History: A Son’s Journey through Islamic Lands”, is about to be launched in London in a week and in India a few weeks later. Indian magazine “Outlook” has acquired the rights to the book and as a gesture of friendly cooperation, the magazine has agreed to share their breaking story about the book with The News. The magazine will hit the stands in India on Friday. |
