LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Shahbaz Sharif on Thursday ordered to abolish the examination and registration fees, from class 8 onwards, of the province’s education boards. Shahbaz made this decision while chairing a high level meeting of the Punjab Education Department. | Gilani orders one-dish menu at PM’s Secretariat |
| ISLAMABAD: The federal cabinet on Wednesday decided that guests attending gatherings and functions at the Prime Minister’s Secretariat would be served a one-dish menu to curtail expenses in the future. | ISLAMABAD: Lal Masjid chief cleric Abdul Aziz on Monday visited the residence of Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, and condoled the death of his mother. Former Punjab chief minister Pervaiz Elahi and other family members were also present. Later, taking to reporters, Aziz appreciated the efforts of Shujaat in trying to avoid bloodshed during the security forces’ operation at Lal Masjid.

| ISLAMABAD: Chief of Army Staff Gen Ashfaq Kayani co-piloted an F-16 over Swat on Monday, and vowed to defend the nation “at all costs”. During a visit to the PAF operational base, he told airmen Operation Rah-e-Rast had been the last resort after all peaceful options had been exhausted. He said the Pakistan Air Force and the Pakistan Army were united, and were participating in Operation Rah-e-Rast shoulder-to-shoulder.
